Barcelona ‘could send Marcus Rashford back to Man Utd’ weeks after agreeing loan deal

Marcus Rashford is aiming to restart his career after joining Barcelona on loan but he is yet to convince fans with his performances so far and there have been reports of concern from the boardroom

Barcelona are considering sending Marcus Rashford back to Manchester United after a difficult start to his loan spell, according to a bombshell report from Spain.

Rashford joined the Catalan giants at the end of July, ending his recent difficulties at Old Trafford after being frozen out of the first team by manager Ruben Amorim.

The winger has featured in all three of Barcelona’s first three La Liga games but is yet to impress for the team after playing a total of 95 minutes. He started Barcelona’s 3-2 win at Levante last month but was hooked at half time, with the hosts leading 2-0 at the time.

He was also brought on as a sub during the season opening win at Mallorca and the 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano, but fans and pundits are yet to be convinced he will be a valuable member of the squad.

And there are reportedly concerns about Rashford in the boardroom too, according to Spanish outlet El Nacional, who says the club expected better displays from the England international at this point.

It adds that bosses have founded his performances ‘disappointing’ and that they expect an improvement soon, but their patience won’t be infinite.

The report also suggests that president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco were never convinced over Rashford’s signing – having preferred Nico Williams or Luis Diaz.

Hansi Flick was the one who pushed for the move, feeling he could help Rashford recapture the form that turned him into a superstar at Old Trafford. Speaking after the opening game of the season, Flick said he was confident that Rashford would have a strong impact with the Spanish champions.

“He gives us more possibilities,” he said last month. “I know he’s more comfortable playing as a winger, but with his strengths, he contributes a lot to our play. I’m confident we’ll see a great Marcus Rashford this season.”

The Spanish side would have to pay a fee of around £4.3m if they decided to send Rashford back early. Chelsea had to pay a similar penalty fee of £5m to United after refusing to take up their obligation to sign Jadon Sancho at the end of last season.

The news continues Rashford’s turbulent year after initially falling out with manager Amorim, who took issue with the player’s attitude in training.

Speaking brutally about Rashford at the start of the year, the coach said he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than someone who “doesn’t give the maximum”.
