Birmingham City are leading a host of Championship clubs in the race to snap up Eiran Cashin on loan as the Blues close in on yet another transfer coup.

Cashin, 23, joined Brighton back in the January transfer window after coming through the ranks at Derby County and has had no shortage of suitors among second-tier clubs after being given the green light to continue his development out on loan.

Mirror Football understands that Birmingham have now emerged as the favourites to sign the sought-after defender for the 2025-26 campaign.

Cashin would be the latest eye-catching signing for the Blues, who are chasing a second successive promotion after winning the League One title last year.

The Republic of Ireland youth international is held in high regard by Brighton, who paid a significant sum to bring him to the south coast earlier this year after a lengthy pursuit spanning almost two years.

He made two substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Seagulls after leaving Derby mid-season but is now poised to return to the Championship to play a part in Birmingham’s bid to clinch successive promotions.

The Blues have already significantly strengthened the squad which romped to the League One title last year with a record points tally.

The likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Tommy Doyle and Demarai Gray have all signed on for Birmingham’s return to the Championship with more additions expected before the summer transfer window shuts on 1 September.

Cashin made 144 appearances in total for Derby before moving to the Premier League, scoring six goals.

The Rams academy graduate was also named in the 2023-24 League One team of the season following his performances in Derby’s promotion winning season.
