Sky is back with a big update to Sports service – here’s what’s new, how to get it and when it launches.

There’s good news if love watching endless sporting action on your TV. Sky has just confirmed the launch of a brand new service that will bring a swathe of extra content to living rooms and the best part is, it’s free…well kind of.

The new Sky Sports+ platform will be included at no extra charge for anyone who already subscribes to a full Sports package.

When it arrives in the summer, it will feature endless hours of content including four times as many matches from the English Football League (EFL) as are currently shown.

In fact, fans will soon be able to watch all 72 teams from the EFL with Sky promising every club will feature on the service over 20 times a season.

To make sure you never miss a vital moment or a single goal, Sky is also boasting that it has the capability to show 100 live events concurrently. These streams will also feature the option to pause the live action plus the clever ‘Recap’ feature – which is currently available for Premier League and Championship games – will also be made available for EFL matches.

Of course, it’s not just about football. Those customers with Sky Sports+ will also get access to tennis Tours and men’s Super League. Sky says that, in total, there will be a whopping 50% more things to watch than before.

Another bonus is exclusive access to Sky’s sports documentaries such as the much-anticipated Darts documentary. These will be broadcast two weeks before those without Sports+ can tune in.

It’s been confirmed that the platform will be available across all of Sky’s devices including Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream. Those opting to watch via Sky’s NOW streaming service will also see the boost as well.

Finally, the Sky’s Sports app will also be upgraded to include full access to Sports+ – that’s good news for those who enjoying watching on the move or via their smartphones.

“Exceptional sport, covered in an innovative and compelling way, has been a big part of our history. With the introduction of Sky Sports+, we are now able to offer sport fans more choice and an even better experience when watching the live action, at no extra cost,” said Jonathan Licht, Managing Director at Sky Sports, said:

“For the first time, we will broadcast every game live from across the EFL on the opening weekend. It’s going to be a huge moment for football fans up and down the country and is a fitting way to kick off our ground-breaking new partnership with the EFL. And this is just the beginning; Sky Sports+ unlocks the potential for us to keep evolving and finding new ways to deliver brilliant sport to our customers.”

Sky Sports+ is expected to launch this August and will be free to those with a full Sky Sports package.
