Bargain retailer B&M has confirmed all its UK stores will shut down for a day later this year. The British variety store and garden centre chain has more than 700 shops across the UK, and is popular among shoppers for its vast offering and regular deals.

B&M said on Monday, September 8, that it will close its stores on Christmas Day, December 25, but that they’ll soon reopen after this. A B&M spokesperson told the Mirror stores will then open again as usual on Boxing Day, December 26.

While the Boxing Day hours for B&M are not yet known, in 2024 most were open 8am-6pm, with the same applying on both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Customers are advised to contact their local stores directly for specific opening times, nearer the time.

The news comes after fellow retailer Home Bargains confirmed last week that its stores would shut for three days over the festive season. Home Bargains stores will close at 5pm on Christmas Eve and reopen on December 27 – giving staff both Christmas Day and Boxing Day off.

Stores will also shut down on New Year’s Day, Thursday, January 1. A spokesperson for Home Bargains said: “Our colleagues work incredibly hard throughout the year, and we want to recognise that commitment.

“As a family-run business, we understand the importance of spending time with family and friends, particularly over the holidays. We’re proud to give our teams additional time off to enjoy the festive season.”
