A body has been found in the search for a missing British man who vanished in Spain.

Marc Tulloch Hewson was last spotted around midday on September 20 in the area known as Los Balcones in Torrevieja. The Spanish city, which sits around 50 km away from the more popular Alicante, is not the area the 63-year-old expat was believed to be living.

He had just left his home in the Orihuela Costa area two days prior to his disappearance, before being taken to Torrevieja Hospital in an ambulance. It wasn’t until around 2am on September 19 that Hewson was discharged, when he then vanished.

He was sighted the next day in Los Balcones, the Olive Press reports. It’s believed that Marc’s mental health was deteriorating, and the last time he was seen, he was collecting bottles in a carrier bag.

He was described as wearing no shoes and was not carrying any form of identification.

The body was found in a wooded area close to the Torrevieja salt lake.

After his body was found, it was reported that there were no suspicious signs surrounding his death.

A formal appeal was made by Marc’s wife, Catherine, who had been heavily involved in the search to find him, on October 7.Meanwhile, his sister Fiona Crowther has been assisting her in a ground search when his body was discovered.

Fiona said: “Thank you very much for all your support these last few weeks. Catherine and I were present at the ground search.

“A body has been found and identified as Marc’s.

“Catherine has a lot of good people supporting her. Everybody did everything that they possibly could.”

Kelsey Johnson, who was involved in the search, said: “Thank you to everyone for sharing and reaching out with ideas and kind words in the search for our friend.

“Sadly his body has been found. Not the outcome we hoped for but the support whilst he was missing was of huge support to his family and friends. RIP Marc Hewson.”
