Tyson Fury was in attendance to watch Anthony Joshua’s fight against Daniel Dubois at Wembley on Saturday night and the ‘Gypsy King’ received a warm welcome from the sold-out crowd
Tyson Fury was serenaded by the Wembley crowd ahead of Anthony Joshua’s fight with Daniel Dubois.
Fury, 36, was at the national stadium on Saturday night to watch the exciting all-English matchup, with a crowd of 96,000 expected to be packed inside. The ‘Gypsy King’ hasn’t fought since his first ever loss as professional, to Oleksandr Usyk in May, as he missed out on becoming boxing’s first four-belt undisputed heavyweight champion.
When Fury was shown on Wembley’s big screen ahead of Joshua and Dubois’ bout, a huge cheer went up from the crowd. Thousands then sang ‘Fury’s on fire’, showing that he remains a beloved figure in British sport.
The former WBC heavyweight champion has long been tipped to fight Joshua, with their rivalry so far confined to public spats, social media digs and fraught negotiations between their respective promoters. It’s been suggested that Fury will be ‘AJ’s’ next opponent, so you’d expect him to be watching Joshua closely against the highly-rated Dubois.
But the Morecambe-based star insists that he doesn’t ‘care’. “I don’t know [who’ll win],” Fury told IFLTV. “I don’t really care to be honest. I’ve got my fight with Oleksandr Usyk to deal with, that’s what I’m thinking about, I’m not thinking about who wins out of these two divvies… I don’t give a f*** who wins.”
Fury then discussed his split-decision defeat to Ukrainian Usyk, adding: “He got a gift decision over the Gypsy King, end of… It is what it is, it’s over now. They’ve took my virginity unfairly.
“It’d probably feel weird if I’d done it for £50, but considering I got broke in for a lot of money it doesn’t really matter. It is what it is, you can’t undo a decision, but I’ve got the chance to do it again in December, and that’s what we’ll do. I will knock him out.”

Spencer Brown, Fury’s manager, stated in July that failure to beat Usyk again wouldn’t automatically result in the 36-year-old facing Joshua or even Dubois. “I think that we need to get this one out the way,” Brown told Sky Sports. “There’s no collision course if he doesn’t win the next fight. So it’s imperative he beats Usyk.”
Joshua has been taking the same approach, although he’d be ‘honoured’ to fight Fury or Usyk down the line. “If they call me to fight them, 100 per cent,” Joshua also said to Sky Sports.
“It’s what I do. Fight. I’ll be ready. It’ll be an honour to fight them two. I’m not focusing on Usyk and Fury. I’ll watch it. Let me get past Dubois. We’ll see.”
