Pictures shared by Thai locals show water cascading over rooftops as tremors shake pools set on high-rise buildings after the “significant” earthquake hit Bangkok

Apocalyptic scenes are unfolding in Thailand this morning after a massive 7.4 magnitude earthquake shook the country so hard that high-rise buildings were reduced to dust and rubble.

People trying to capture the tremors were left unable to stand, and buildings were shaken so badly that water started cascading over the top of luxury flats in the Bangkok city centre.

The tremors, which are said to have originated in Myanmar, has taken a dramatic toll on the Thai capital as people capturing the shock earthquake struggle to stay on their feet.

One video of a building site posted to social media this morning showed a construction site being torn from its foundations as workers ran for safety.

In another clip posted to X, formerly Twitter, showing the earthquake’s epicentre, a landmark local bridge was similarly torn apart.
