The fictional flat of Bridget Jones could have skyrocketed in value since her character made her first on-screen appearance in 2001.
According to property experts at Rightmove, the average asking price for a one-bedroom flat in Borough, London—a hotspot for Bridget’s romantic escapades — has increased by 195%. But as fans of await the 2025 release of “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” those same flats are now fetching £549,143. Across Britain, typical starter homes’ prices have also shot up over the period—with a 155% hike from £89,207 to £227,212—but London has seen an almost parallel leap to Borough’s, with first-time buyer property values rising by 196% since 2001.
Lucky in real estate if not always in romance, Bridget eventually traded up to posh Hampstead, where properties now go for an average of £1,548,278.
Steve Pimblett, Rightmove’s chief data officer, said: “Long-spanning franchises like Bridget Jones are a reminder just how much things have changed over the years, including property prices. While Bridget may be portrayed as not always having it quite together, looking back, a one-bedroom flat in the heart of London was a real achievement.”
