Soon after arriving the British traveller compared the Spanish resort hotel to a prison and even nicknamed it “HMP Benidorm” due to its gloomy interior
A man holidaying at a resort in Spain, has dubbed it “HMP Benidorm”, after sharing images and videos of his antics.
Grumet, as he is known online has more than 300,000 followers and has recently shared snippers of his visit to the Spanish seaside resort after he booked himself into a hotel. Soon after arriving, he compared it to a prison, nicknaming it “HMP Benidorm”.
In the clip, which has racked up 2.1m views and 159,000 likes, he shows the inside of the hotel where the foyer area is made up of white walls and metal bars. He then films his friends and asks how long they’re in for.
One of them answers: “For selling a dodgy fire stick”. Graham said: “I wouldn’t stay here again. I’ve not been to prison, but I’ve seen TV programmes and this was no different. The landing stood out the most. As soon as I saw it, I said this isn’t a apartment, it’s a prison.
“I nicknamed it HMP Benidorm. I mean it’s not a bad place to stay if you got a room looking at the old town of Benidorm – it would be ideal. But ours was so bad. Our view literally a prison wall.”
One social media user said: “Even sounds like a jail.” Another person joked: “My grandad got remanded there for TV license.” [sic] Linda added: “Damn funny.”
Last summer British tourists were banned from going in the water at two beaches in Spain after the appearance of dangerous sea creatures, whose sting can be deadly.
Red flags – banning bathers – went up at both Tamarit beach and Altafulla beach, which close to the east coast Spanish city of Tarragona, after a deluge of Portuguese man o’war. The dangerous jellyfish-like animals have become more common off the Spanish coast in recent years, with seven people stung off Benidorm in June 2019, resulting in three beaches facing temporary closures.
The same month Naomi Mateos, 22, was left with excruciating marks all over her body after being stung by one of the creatures while she was swimming at Punta de Calnegre beach in the south-east province of Murcia. She said after a two-day stay in hospital: “I felt as if fire or acid was being injected into my body.”
