A Brit created a career from turning small tasks into a career in Australia

A British man has launched a business in Australia offering services for jobs people tend to avoid, including household chores, gardening, and grocery shopping.

George Redfern, 21, from Wirral, Merseyside, travelled extensively before settling in Perth, Australia in February 2025. After a fruitless job search, George had an epiphany while tending to his girlfriend’s family garden, realising he could turn these tasks into a career. On March 5, he launched CBA jobs, and has since earned $700 (£340.21) by completing tasks such as gardening, window cleaning, and car washing.

George Redfern said: “One day I was cleaning the garden of my girlfriend’s family house and I thought to myself that I can do this as a job. I started the company a few weeks ago, and I had a job today that took five hours at this woman’s house who had disabilities and she needed help on her garden.

“I’m looking to do a car wash, window cleaning, garden tidy up, and house tidy up. It’s not really a skilful job, these are just jobs you have to complete the job.”

Before moving to Australia, George and his girlfriend, Halle, 21, had long dreamed of spending a year in the country. In January this year, George and his girlfriend launched into their grand adventure, jet setting off to Athens, then experiencing the glitz of Dubai, before soaking in Bangkok’s culture and finally landing in Australia by March 2025.

George commented: “We did a few days in Greece and went to Athens to see the sights and then met some of my girlfriend’s family in Abu Dhabi. We then went to Dubai and then went to Bangkok for five days and then went to Sydney for two weeks. I’d say Abu Dhabi was my favourite just by how quiet it was, but it’s a crazy place, and you feel so safe.”

Upon moving to Australia, George found himself hitting a wall job-wise, despite searching for openings in social media, bar work, and receptionist roles. Struck with inspiration while tidying a garden out of boredom, George launched ‘CBA Jobs’ on March 5, 2025, offering services for those too busy or unwilling to handle everyday chores. Now, George’s new venture is on the upswing, with tasks like window cleaning, car washing, and grocery shopping under his belt.

George revealed: “I was cleaning the back garden because I was bored waiting to hear back from jobs. An idea popped into my head that I could do jobs for people who don’t have time to do those jobs or don’t want to. With no money at all, I created my own Facebook page and asked the customers if I could use their equipment. Within hours, I had five customers who wanted me to clean up their gardens and use their equipment.

“At my first job, I earned $115 (£55.89) for four hours of work, and with that money, I started buying gardening equipment and work gear. In my second job I earned $135 (£65.61) using their equipment as well.”

George revealed his favourite job is gardening as he gets to spend the entire day outdoors. He mentioned that satisfied customers have already scheduled him for future tasks.

“People have asked me to come back, which was nice, and I like the fact that it is making a difference to people’s lives,” George stated. “I did a job the other day with a woman who is currently caring for her son who has cancer, and it was nice to help her out. Garden cleaning is my favourite job because you are in the outdoors all day, and I like to take before-and-after shot’s so I can see the difference that my work has made.”

George charges $15 (£7.29) for a car wash or a small lawn mowing job, $30 (£14.58) for a larger lawn mowing job, $25 (£12.15) for a house tidy, garden tidy or grocery shopping and $10 (£4.86) for window cleaning, per window.
