The weather forecast for Spain next week shows the mercury will hit 34C, warmer than periods during the summer, so Brits holidaying in the nation should take care

Mainland Europe – including Spain, southern France, parts of Italy and southeastern Greece – are set to experience temperatures exceeding 30C in an October heatwave.

But Brits heading to these countries on holiday this month have been warned to take care in the sun. The heatwave is sweeping across parts of the continent, and so temperatures in some cities are expected to be around 10C warmer than average for the time of year.

Malaga typically sees highs of 24C in October but the mercury is believed to hit 34C there today, and 31C tomorrow. The average October temperature in Athens is 20C but 31C is forecast on Saturday, and it’ll hit 30C on Sunday in the Greek capital.

It means weather maps for the next couple of weeks across Mainland Europe turn red. They also show areas around the popular city of Seville, often dubbed one of Europe’s hottest cities, are to experience a sweltering 34C heatwave.

This summer, Seville saw temperatures soar to 43C. The mercury in southern Spain is also on the rise, with cities like Badajoz expected to reach 32C – a significant boost for British holidaymakers travelling this month.

The balmy conditions are predicted to last throughout the weekend, with Murcia expecting highs of 34C on Sunday. The popular Costa Blanca will also enjoy pleasant temperatures, with Alicante and Benidorm both forecasted to reach 29C this weekend.

The summer-like temperatures will extend to Portugal, especially Lisbon, as well as North Africa, including Morocco and Algeria, reports the Express.

According to WX Charts, the northern regions of the continent will experience much cooler temperatures, remaining in the low-to-mid 20s. For instance, Paris is forecasted to hit a high of 17C on Sunday, with clouds and rain anticipated throughout the day.

However, a sudden plunge in temperatures is expected next week, accompanied by unpredictable weather as the remnants of ex-hurricane Kirk will be felt in western Andalusia. Seville is set to experience rainfall on Monday, with temperatures dipping to highs of 26C, reports The Olive Press.

For those seeking refuge from the impending rain and cold snap, Murcia is your best bet, with the southeastern region predicted to enjoy highs of 31C throughout the entire week.

Meanwhile, UK temperatures are forecasted to be significantly lower, with weather maps displaying a green hue, indicating temperatures around 10C. The remnants of Kirk are also anticipated to be swept up in the jet stream and directed towards the UK, bringing additional rain and strong winds.

Kirk has intensified into a category 4 storm in the Atlantic Ocean, and while it’s not directly targeting Britain, it will instigate a period of unsettled weather across the nation.

In its most recent long-range forecast, for the period between October 8 and October 17, the Met Office stated: “The forecast period looks most likely to be mostly unsettled, with frequent bouts of wind and rain associated with areas of low pressure.”

“Frequent showers, especially over southern areas, at first, will probably (but not definitely, at this range) give way to more widespread rain and strong winds associated with the remnants of Hurricane Kirk later in the week.”
