A British woman has died on holiday after being discovered behind a church in France.

The victim, said to be in her 20s, was found in a rocky area behind the St-Nicolas church on the coast of Barfleur, Normandy around 9am this morning. She had been on holiday in the area, and was reportedly staying with her partner in a cottage near the city’s port. Police have launched an investigation, with forensic teams spotted at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled to be carried out on the body this afternoon. The cause of death remains unclear, though sources close to the investigation told Ouest France that she is currently believed to have drowned.
