Bryson DeChambeau entered the Open as the reigning U.S. Open champion, but he came crashing down to earth at Royal Troon as he struggled in the dismal conditions

Golf ace Bryson DeChambeau has confessed that he needs to tweak his technique if he’s ever going to clinch a win at the Open.

The two-time major winner faced disappointment last week at Royal Troon, missing the cut after rounds of 76 and 75 left him nine-over par. The 30-year-old powerhouse, known for his long drives, lamented that his usual style of play didn’t match up with the challenging wet and windy conditions at the year’s final major.

Despite his reluctance to alter his game before the tournament, it seems the experience has taught him a valuable lesson. DeChambeau managed to shave off a stroke in the second round on Friday, but despite not making a memorable impact, he’s convinced he’s on the right track. Even with Donald Trump hailing him as the world’s top golfer, the current U.S. Open champ is aware that changes are necessary.

“The Open Championship has always been kind of a different one for me. I have played well in sunny, dry, normal conditions there, but when it gets really wet and windy and nasty, I’ve always struggled,” DeChambeau admitted. “Last week just felt like I broke the seal a bit in that second round.

“Even though I didn’t play that great, I felt like I could control the golf ball for the first time in those types of conditions, and that was a huge moment for me to go, okay, I think I can do this if I just work a little bit harder leading into this tournament in these conditions.”

He added: “I think prep work next year is going to be a big thing for me going into the Open. Working on controlling shots, flighting shots, wedge shots, and working in windy conditions on putting greens, I feel like I’m going to give myself a decent chance.”

In the run-up to the Open, DeChambeau enjoyed a round with Trump as part of his YouTube “Break 50” series, where the ex-president heaped praise on him, calling the LIV Golf sensation the “best player in the world “.

DeChambeau’s ties with Trump are well-known; he’s teamed up with Trump Golf, flaunted their emblem on his golf bag, and even toasted his 2020 U. S. Open triumph at Trump National Golf Club Westchester, hosted by none other than Eric Trump. The duo recently celebrated again, sipping wine from the U.S. Open trophy in New York after DeChambeau’s thrilling victory at Pinehurst No. 2.

Trump took to Truth Social to extend his kudos to DeChambeau after his second major win, writing: “Congratulations to Bryson DeChambeau on his incredible WIN of the United States Open! He showed a toughness and inner strength, matched perfectly with his GREAT Golfing Talent, that can never be denied!

“Under massive pressure, he pulled off some of the greatest shots ever made, especially his spectacular sand save on the 18th Hole that gave him the Victory.”

DeChambeau is set to tee off this weekend at LIV Golf UK. The Crushers GC captain will be aiming for both team and individual glory at the JCB Golf and Country Club.
