The Championship fixture between Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town was dramatically postponed with just minutes left on the clock due to a waterlogged pitch after heavy rainfall

Blackburn Rovers’ game against Ipswich Town was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch in the 80th minute on Saturday afternoon following heavy rainfall at Ewood Park.

The hosts were leading 1-0 at the time when the players were taken off the pitch by the referee. Rovers’ official X account posted: “The ref has called the game to a stop and brought all the players off the pitch due to the wet pitch.”

Ipswich Town’s account added: “Still chucking it down and the players are still inside. Understandably, a lot of home fans have made the decision to leave. No word yet.”

Blackburn broke the deadlock on the hour mark courtesy of a Todd Cantwell penalty and also had a numerical advantage over their visitors, who saw Jacob Greaves sent off in the 49th minute.

The game was halted for over 20 minutes as supporters of both sides waited for a decision to be made on whether the game would continue. It was eventually announced that the decision had been taken to abandon the game.

“Due to a waterlogged pitch, the referee has called off the contest,” Blackburn said on X.
