It’s an item that most parents in the UK would take for granted in their baby’s nappy bag but it’s also been hailed a “lifesaver” for combatting acne-prone skin

The quest for perfect skin is never-ending with the majority of us happy to try different lotions, potions, and treatments to combat a litany of issues.

One of these problems that many people experience is getting spots, particularly when travelling. Flying can cause all sorts of concerns including either overly dry or oily skin which can result in an overly tired complexion or an outbreak of pimples.

However, influencer BambiDoesBeauty revealed that she never goes anywhere, and especially not a plane, without her trusty bottle of hypochlorous acid spray.

Posting on Instagram a clip of her spritzing it over her face, she wrote: “To the girl who told us to spray our skin with baby sanitiser to stop breakouts when flying. I owe you my life.” She then wrote next to it: “Acne-prone girls this is your sign to get yourself a hypochlorous acid spray.”

Otherwise known as a sanitiser for babies, hypochlorous is perfect for combating redness and inflammation associated with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. It’s also used as an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral – killing 99.9999% of known germs.

The product has become a hit on social media, particularly TikTok as people gush over the item which is fast becoming a gym-bag staple as it can help prevent post-workout acne, stave off odour, and even clean equipment.

One of the best things about the product is that it can be introduced into your skincare routine straight away without causing issues, unlike other acids – for instance, retinol which requires it to be built up over time.

People quickly reacted to the post expressing their love for the product. One person replied: “Hypochlorous acid spray is the biggest secret for no reason. I use it all the time to heal cuts, piercings, eczema, as hand sanitiser…”

One cheap and cheerful option recommended in the comments was Vital Baby Aquaint Sanitising Water, £2.49, and available from Waitrose and Boots.
