Freeview has just pushed out a pretty major update which includes new channels, TV guide position changes and a number of services closing for good.

Freeview has confirmed that a major update is now available in UK homes. The free-to-watch platform has made some changes to channels found on the planner along with launching new things to watch and ending some radio services. Anyone wanting to keep up to date now needs to make sure their televisions have been retuned.

“On 24 April 2024 some broadcasters are making important changes to their channels. You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date,” Freeview confirmed on its website.

If you’re wondering exactly what is new and what has been switched around, we’ve got full details below.

First up there’s those new channels which include Purpose Media on Channel 293 and Talk TV on Channel 294. Next, there’s a whole swathe of things switching positions including ITVBE+1 (moving from channel 58 to channel 93), ITV3+1 (moves to channel 58 from 59 and ITV4+1’s (its new place is channel 59 – this was channel 93).

Along with those updates, there’s a bunch of regional services getting new names – we’ve got the full list below.

• Birmingham TV is now called Talk Birmingham and can be found on Channel 7

• Bristol TV is now Talk Bristol and can be found on Channel 7

• Cardiff TV is now Talk Cardiff and can be found on Channel 8

• Leeds TV is now Talk Leeds and can be found on Channel 7

• Liverpool TV is now Talk Liverpool and can be found on Channel 8

• North Wales TV is now Talk North Wales and can be found on Channel 8

• Teesside TV is now Talk Teesside and can be found on Channel 7

• Tyne & Wear TV is Talk Tyne & Wear and can be found on Channel 7

Finally, there are those unfortunate channel closures which include Zee World being shut down along with 7 radio stations such as Kiss, Greatest Hits Radio, Magic and Kerrang!

HOW TO RETUNE YOUR FREEVIEW TV

Freeview has issued advice on how to retune devices and here are the steps every user needs to follow.

• Press menu on your box or TV remote control

• Select ‘set-up’, ‘installation’, ‘update’ or a similar option. If you’re asked for a password, the default code is ‘1234’ or ‘0000’.

• Select ‘first-time installation’ (sometimes called ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’).

•Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if it’s OK to delete existing channels and then your retune should start automatically. If you’re prompted to, save the channels that are found.
