Frozen food is great for when you fancy a quick and easy meal or snack; just take frozen chips, for example, which can be effortless to make.

But if you find defrosted chips are lacking in crunch and crispiness, there’s a simple solution to that.

To help deliver that additional bite and restaurant-quality excellence, chef Joshua Weissman put to the test a recipe created by fellow chef, Chris Young.

Chris’ recipe suggested avoiding an oven to help achieve crispy chips; instead use another much-adored appliance: the air-fryer.

In a TikTok video, Joshua declared these were the “crunchiest” air-fryer chips ever.

Firstly, take your frozen chips and place them in a microwaveable container with some water. Allow them to sit in the water for 30 seconds before pouring the water away.

Place a lid on the container and give the chips a good shake to help fluff them up. Once the chips are fluffy, place them in the microwave and cook them for five minutes until they are steaming.

Next, place the chips into the air-fryer basket and cook at 204C/400F for 15 minutes. Josh advised shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time.

To give the chips some more flavour after they’ve cooked, Joshua suggested adding some melted beef fat and some salt.

He said: “These are insane. I’m gotta shoutout my friend Chris Young – he’s a genius.”

Joshua’s video has been viewed over a massive 2.4million times, receiving 222,700 likes and 441 comments.

One commentator, Rhea, said: “Those look delicious!” Another fan, Ryan, said: “Thank you Joshua for doing the Lord’s work we have all been trying to master! We aren’t worthy.”

Another commented: “I actually buy these frozen fries, so [I’m going to] save this video and try this.”

Somebody else suggested: “You can just air-fry them [for] a minute or two more than the suggested time and they’re crispier.”

One more contributor, named Cody, replied: “I made these last night. They are crazy good.” Meanwhile one more fan agreed: “Just tried these… legit!”
