Caleb Wiley played just six times for Strasbourg – who are owned by Chelsea chief Todd Boehly – but was recalled by the club on deadline day and has now linked up with Watford for the rest of the season

Chelsea left-back Caleb Wiley has joined Watford on loan for the rest of the season, after the USA international spent the first half of the season with Strasbourg.

The Blues signed Wiley from MLS side Atalanta United for around £8.5million in the summer before being immediately sent on loan to the Ligue 1 side. The 20-year-old played just six times for Strasbourg – who are owned by Chelsea chief Todd Boehly and his companions – but was recalled by the club on deadline day after struggling to make an impact in France under head coach Liam Rosenior.

Thus Chelsea are looking to get more minutes for Wiley and hope he will have more chance to do so in the Championship with the Hornets.

In a statement, the Hertfordshire club said: “Watford FC have signed left-back Caleb Wiley on loan for the remainder of the season. The 20-year-old joins from Chelsea after spending the first half of the 2024/25 campaign with French top-flight side RC Strasbourg. Welcome to Watford, Caleb!”

Wiley goes straight into Tom Cleverley’s Watford squad and will be hoping to help them push their way up the Championship table, after struggling in 12th place. The Hornets are only three points off the play-offs, however, in a competitive season that sees just eight points separate fifth place and 16th.

It’s been a quiet deadline for Chelsea as far as incomings are concerned, but there could be more outgoings alongside Wiley on deadline day.

Forward Joao Felix looks set to join AC Milan on loan, just six months after signing for the Blues in a £46.3m deal, while Ben Chilwell is poised to sign for Crystal Palace on loan.

Defender Axel Disasi has also been linked with a move away, with Tottenham and Aston Villa both rumoured to be interested in the Frenchman.
