Chelsea have the option to sign Jadon Sancho permanently from Manchester United in the summer transfer window, but are still considering alternatives because he hasn’t convinced
Chelsea are not entirely convinced by Jadon Sancho and have two potential alternatives earmarked for the summer transfer window. Sancho is on loan with Chelsea from Manchester United until the end of the season and the Blues have an option to make the move permanent for a fee of up to £25million.
The winger wrote “wishing everyone all the best in the future” on social media when his deal went through on deadline day last summer, suggesting he is not planning to return to his parent club. But Sancho hasn’t fully convinced at Stamford Bridge, returning just two goals and six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, to complicate his future.
Chelsea have an option to back out of the deal with United, but it will cost them £5m. It’s understood they ARE still planning on signing Sancho, but are keeping their options open, having already agreed deals for Sporting midfielders Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo for a combined fee of £62.4m. And that could mean signing Sancho but also ANOTHER wide man too.
United winger Alejandro Garnacho and Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens were considered in the January transfer window and both are still on the radar, as first reported by BBC Sport. In many ways they are more attractive propositions than Sancho.

Garnacho and Gittens are both 20 years old and are faster and more direct than Sancho, who at 24 years old has lost the spark he had at Borussia Dortmund. He has just one assist in his last 18 appearances for Chelsea, with just two shots on target in those matches.
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas has suggested that his old club should back out of the deal to sign Sancho permanently. “He’s a talented player, everybody knows this, but we don’t know why he can’t perform and can’t show what he can do,” he told Stadium Astro.
“At Dortmund, he was magnificent. At Manchester United it didn’t work well for him. He came to Chelsea and at the beginning we saw that Sancho from Dortmund, but then he disappeared.
“I don’t know what the problem is, but at the moment he can’t stay at Chelsea because he has to do more. When you play in the Premier League you have to play every game at the highest level. It’s not easy, but you can’t just play well for a few games and then chill out.”
United manager Ruben Amorim froze out Marcus Rashford and loaned out Sancho and has hinted that he doesn’t see a way back for the loanees. Much will depend on their performances between now and the end of the season, with both of them playing for their futures.
