Jadon Sancho produced an assist in his first start for Chelsea away to West Ham and has been backed to leave a big mark on their season by central defender Tosin

Jadon Sancho can become Chelsea’s X-factor, according to Tosin.

The winger produced another assist in his first start for the club and had supporters chanting his name within half an hour following a piece of showboating in the West Ham box.

But there was plenty of end product from the 24-year-old – alongside some diligent defensive work.

And Tosin is convinced Sancho, whose loan from Manchester United will become permanent next summer, can prove to be a regular game-changer for the Blues after putting a difficult spell at Old Trafford behind him.

“He’s a top player, he always has been,” Tosin said. “You see that when he’s on the ball and when he’s working. He brings another element to our team. We’re very lucky to have him.”

Meanwhile, Jarrod Bowen has vowed to tackle West Ham’s issues “head on” after furious fans were quick to make their feelings known to Julen Lopetegui.

The new Hammers head coach was jeered only 55 minutes into his third home game when subbing off Crysencio Summerville.

However the damage had long been done by some shambolic defending. Captain Bowen said: “I hate losing games and I hate losing games in the manner that we did.”

But having arrived at the club in January 2020, when they were facing a relegation battle, he knows what it takes to get out of a slump and is sure the current squad has the togetherness to right their early wrongs.

“It feels like we’ve been in this situation before, I’ve answered these questions before and there’s two ways you can go about it,” Bowen said.

“You can hide under it or take it head on, and that’s what I’ll do. That’s what this group of lads will do, we’ll hit it head on because the fans deserve better.

“We’re all disappointed with how the game went but it doesn’t define our season. There is a lot of football to be played. We stick together, everyone.”
