Chelsea icon Sam Kerr has shared the news that she is expecting a baby with West Ham midfielder Kristie Mewis after the pair had offered a rare insight into their relationship

Chelsea forward Sam Kerr and West Ham star Kristie Mewis have announced that they are having a baby.

The pair have been together since 2021 and took to social media to share the news. Sharing a series of images of them in a photobooth, they wrote: “Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!”

Both Kerr and Mewis have been sent a host of congratulatory messages by both former and current teammates. Ex-Chelsea star Fran Kirby wrote in response: “Omg. Congratulations both of you!”

Fellow Lioness Chloe Kelly wrote: “Congratulations to you both,” while Blues goalkeeper Hannah Hampton also offered a kind word: “Omgggg congratulations.”

The congratulations were not just limited to the Lionesses. Bayern Munich and Sweden star Magdalena Eriksson said: “Ahhhh congrats,” with Chelsea star Guro Reiten also replied with a heart emoji.

Elsewhere, USA legend Carli Lloyd also had some kind words for Kerr and Mewis. Reacting to the news, she wrote: “Congrats!

Mewis, 33, and Kerr, 31, have been together since 2021 and announced that they were engaged last year following weeks of speculation.

Opening up on their romance in the past, Kerr said: “We didn’t share it for ages. Then it just got too hard to hide it. I remember one time we were with some friends and some fans asked for a picture and then we thought we don’t really want this coming out from someone else. We want to be the ones to share it. Once we told our friends it kind of started getting out there a little bit.”

Mewis has also said that she is proud of sharing her relationship with Kerr online. She added: “I think just being out and being two girls in love, I think if we can change one or two people’s lives and the way that they feel about each other and how comfortable they feel, then that means a lot to me.

“So I think if we can change the way one or two people feel about themselves, they can look at us and see that we’re happy and we’re trying to be as successful as we can and we’re an out gay couple. I think that that’s so important.”

While Kerr and Mewis are certainly loved up off of the pitch, they are rivals on it. Kerr has four goals and three assists for Chelsea this season in the WSL, while Mewis has made just one appearance for West Ham this season.
