A 39-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested after a 9-year-old child was “grabbed and followed” near St Nicholas Rest Garden in the city with police now appealing for information

A 9-year-old child was “grabbed and followed” close to a popular UK beach with a 39-year-old man being arrested, according to police.

Officers are appealing for information after the boy was reportedly followed by a man in Dyke Road close to St Nicholas Rest Garden, in Brighton. Sussex Police said the incident happened in the morning earlier this month.

“The incident was said to have happened at around 8.45am on 13 June, and that a man had tried to grab the boy and then followed him along the road,” a police spokesperson said.

“A 39-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of common assault and possession of a Class B drug.”

Officers are now appealing for witnesses and have asked for anyone in the area at the time who saw what happened, or who has any information, to make a report.
