Social media users have reported issues with their Chromecast, with website DownDetector seeing a surge in people saying they have experienced problems with the Gen 2 device

Social media users have reported issues with their Chromecast, with a number of people reporting an outage.

The website Down Detector has reported a surge in people saying they have experienced problems. One person on X wrote: “Congratulations to @madebygoogle who have managed to kill everyone’s Chromecast at 6pm on a Sunday evening.”

Another person said: “Google chromecast suddenly stopped working… quickly looked if others having the same issue and they are – obviously did all basic troubleshooting. What gives @madebygoogle @google #chromecast #googlechromecast.”

Another person said: “Looks like @google either has some broken functionality, or they killed Chromecast Audio support without an announcement. @madebygoogle.”

It follows news that Google would be discontinuing the streaming media adapter Chromecast, and it will gradually be replaced by the new Google TV Streamer. In a statement on a blog post the company said: “The time has now come to evolve the smart TV streaming device category — primed for the new area of AI, entertainment and smart homes. With this, there are no changes to our support policy for existing Chromecast devices, with continued software and security updates to the latest devices.”

Google has not yet confirmed the outage, but has responded on X to multiple users experiencing issues offering assistance. The Mirror has approached the tech giant for comment

In its description of the product, Google says it ” brings together everything TV lovers want to watch in one easy-to-find place across all their streaming services.”.
