Professional cleaner Kelly has a huge TikTok following and has revealed three common cleaning mistakes that she says give her “the icks” – and she’s not the only one
A professional cleaner has spilled the beans on three common cleaning hacks that totally give her “the ick”.
As people get ready for hosting people at Christmas many are rolling up their sleeves for a thorough home clean. But as we get prepared to make sure our pads spick and span can be a bit of a mission. And let’s face it, keeping the loo pristine is often the most dreaded of tasks.
Cleaner Kelly isn’t shy about sharing the major ‘icks’ you should steer clear of when tackling your toilet. The mum-of-three reckons it’s time to bin the cloths, ditch fancy toilet roll patterns, chuck out the loo brush and insists on tackling the filthiest parts of the throne last.
Posting on TikTok with her account @kelly198810, Kelly dished out: “These are my three biggest icks as a cleaner. Number one – using cloths on the toilet seat. A lot of people do and that’s OK, but personally I can’t stand it, it turns my stomach.” She went on to say: “I used to use Clinell wipes but now I just use a spray bottle and some toilet roll and flush it. No more putting cloths with God-knows-what on in the washing machine.”
Kelly, who’s an expert at posting life hacks online, added: “I like to clean my toilet the cleanest bit first, to the dirtiest bit. I have seen a few other people cleaning the dirtiest bit first and then wiping the rest of it. It just turns my stomach.”
The TikTok post, where a mum revealed her cleaning routines and pet peeves, sparked off a flood of comments when she shared: “I put a bit of bleach in there [the toilet] and leave it to sit. If you have got boys, you want to be washing your walls every time. Next up is doing fancy patterns with toilet roll. This is my biggest ick.”
She questioned the hygiene of cleaners handling toilet paper, asking: “How do you know that your cleaner is washing their hands after they have cleaned their bathroom and they are touching the toilet roll that you are wiping yourself with, and then stamping it on the top with probably some limescale on there?”
The mother of three boys added: “Number three is toilet brushes. I’ve got one, I don’t use it; they’re absolutely disgusting.” Kelly’s TikTok drew hundreds of responses with many siding with her. One person agreed: “I’m the same – always use toilet roll or kitchen roll on the toilet.”
A professional cleaner weighed in: “As a cleaner I’m delighted to see the comment about this ridiculous origami trend on clients’ toilet roll. A useless waste of time that I just don’t understand.”
Another individual confessed: “I always felt bad for not doing the fancy toilet roll, but this has made me feel better,” Some users were astounded by poor cleaning habits as one commented: “Honestly, the way some people don’t know how to clean is unbelievable.”
Talking about alternatives to traditional toilet brushes, another mentioned: “I hate loo brushes! I use the Harpic flushable loo brush.”
