A cleaning fan wrote to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group asking for advice on how to remove a stain from a wooden coffee table – and people were quick to reply with their best tips
If you’re a bit clumsy and your coffee table is covered in unsightly stains, fear not.
Cleaning experts have revealed a foolproof method for tackling those stubborn marks after a plea for help was posted on social media. A user took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group – a hub for sharing top cleaning hacks – to seek advice on a common issue: “My friend left a tissue on coffee table and I think she had spilled vodka on it and now can’t get this mark out of wood.
“Any advice greatly received,” they penned, alongside a snap of the marked coffee table. And let’s be honest, it wasn’t a pretty sight. But the community came through with some stellar suggestions. One person suggested: “I’ve removed stains like this by gently rubbing with a very slightly damp cloth dipped in wood ashes.”
Another chimed in with: “I would try a magic eraser or gently use a scrubby. Good luck,” while someone else recommended: “Try a hair dryer it’s moisture under the surface.” The original poster, having tried the tips, was ecstatic, saying: “You are amazing it worked in seconds thank you so much.” To which the helpful commenter humbly responded: “My pleasure I’ve had it happen often,”.
Elsewhere, cleaning experts suggest using mayonnaise to remove drink stains from wooden coffee tables. Just apply a small dollop of mayo onto a microfibre cloth and dab it directly onto the stain.
After covering the stain with mayo, place a paper towel over it and let it sit for a few hours. Check back later, and if the stain has disappeared, you should be able to wipe it off easily. If not, repeat the process and leave it overnight.
