There are a number of low-budget and innovative cleaning hacks that promise to make household items and even jewellery look “good as new”. Another popular one has resurfaced which helps get rid of stains from your old baking trays without spending too long scrubbing at them.

The best part? This cleaning trick is not only incredibly low-effort but you only need a 2p coin to try it. The hack was first shared in January 2020 by Louise Wright on the Facebook group, Hinch Army Cleaning Tips, where she posted before and after pictures, urging people not to throw out their dirty baking trays.

Louise advised: “Don’t bin baking trays. I spend a fortune on baking trays because I buy the cheaper range and they don’t last long being marked by tough cooking stains.” She isn’t alone, stubborn stains lead many to think their equipment is swiftly unusable.

“But I tried the 2p trick going about and it worked,” shared Louise. She then detailed the surprisingly simple procedure, instructing: “Rub the baking tray with the 2p [coin] and then wash as you would with daily dishes.

“It works, takes away the burnt marks left from baking/cooking. No more binning and replacing.” The post received a flood of likes and positive comments, with many users expressing gratitude to Louise for posting the nifty suggestion. And saving them a fortune on replacing kitchen equipment in the future.

One commenter wrote of the hack: “Fabulous, thank you.” Another lamented, “OMG the money I’ve wasted throwing them away.” A third said they were excited to try the hack for themselves, “Will give this a go now,” they declared, adding, “Thanks for sharing.”

It was even hailed as a “game-changer” by someone in awe of the budget-friendly cleaning process that requires such little elbow grease.

One individual went a step further, seeing potential for other ways the hack could help with other types of stubborn stains and build-up. The user noted that the 2p method could also tackle limescale commonly found on the end of taps and showerheads.

If stubborn limescale is your main concern though, there are a few other tried and tested cleaning hacks that you might want to consider. We’ve tested out five great ones before, but one was the clear winner.
