Avocado on toast is a breakfast classic, but there is one common kitchen ingredient you should be adding to the dish to make it even more delicious – and it’s not pepper

A food expert has let us in on a simple yet game-changing tip for elevating your avocado toast to new heights of deliciousness. Gaby Dalkin, culinary wizard and founder of What’s Gaby Cooking advised: “Always finish your avocado toast with a sprinkling of chunky salt. It bumps up the flavour in the best possible way and adds a bit of texture.”

Here’s how to master the art of avocado on toast. Although avocados are beloved for their creamy, rich texture, they can sometimes lack a punch in the taste department, even at peak ripeness. Throwing a bit of salt into the mix can really elevate the fruit’s flavour.

Sprinkling a touch of salt doesn’t just enhance the butteriness; it also introduces a crunchy dimension that contrasts superbly with the soft avo, making your brekkie a more texturally satisfying experience.

Mind you, grabbing the perfect avocado from the store and ensuring it’s properly ripe is crucial before you even think about prepping this dish, reports the Express.

Gaby dished her shopping tip: “I tend to buy my avocados rock hard so they can ripen on my own kitchen counter without anyone else touching them.

“When they are ready, they should just have the slightest give to them.” The ideal ripe avocado will be a touch soft, exhibit a dark green hue, and under the stem cap, a green colour signifies it’s good to go.

If you’re in a pinch and need to speed-ripen an avocado, pop it in a paper bag and watch the magic happen – a matter of hours is all it takes.

Then it’s as easy as toasting your bread till it’s perfectly golden. For those who swear by thick, crusty bread for their avo toast, you might opt to brown it in a frying pan on the hob, particularly if your toaster can’t accommodate its girth.

Cut through an avocado, eject its pit, and scoop the flesh into a bowl; mash it to your preferred consistency with a fork. Gabby remarked: “Chunky avocado vs smooth avocado… it’s really a personal decision but I prefer it mostly smooth with a few chunks. If it’s too chunky, I find that the avocado falls off and no one wants that.”

Season your buttery avocado mash with salt, pepper, and a splash of lemon juice for a tangy twist that really ups the ante on the flavour profile.

Luxe up your morning toast by slathering it with the avocado mixture – a truly sumptuous start to the day. Elevate it further by topping with luxuries like poached eggs, crispy bacon, smoked salmon or even fiery chilli flakes for those who dare.

Creating an avo toast masterpiece is a breeze and open to your culinary flair; just remember – the right seasoning takes it from bland to grand.
