Passers-by were left horrified after a balcony suddenly collapsed at the concert of Kevin Moreno near Mexico City. At least two people have died following the freak accident

At least two people have died after a glass balcony shattered and caved way at a concert – which saw attendees plummet 40ft to the ground.

Partygoers flocked to the Rich nightclub in San Luis, Potosi, Mexico, to watch musician Kevin Moreno near Mexico City. But the event took a sinister turn when a section of the third-floor barrier on the staircase leading to the club collapsed. Shocking footage captured the moment the glass smashed as dozens of people dropped to the ground.

In the clip, glass debris smashed everywhere as passers-by ran for cover. Several attendees were hospitalised after the tragedy, with five out of the 15 injured said to be in critical condition. The two people who were killed in the freak accident have been named Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente, 21, and Rodrigo Espinosa Alonso, 17, who is also known to his friends as Roy.

A town hall representative has since revealed that the venue didn’t seek approval to host the event, reports Express. Representative Jorge Hernandez said: “The constant and uncontrolled presence of people attending this event caused one of the railings on the third floor of this building to give way under the pressure and lead to this tragedy which claimed the lives of two people, according to the information we have so far. There are around 15 injured, some of them seriously.”

In response to the disaster, authorities have shut down the nightclub pending further investigation. As of this morning, the five critically wounded individuals were still in intensive care. The father of Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente father, Juan Ramon, held the position of vice president at a union named Coparmex Matehuala. In a heartfelt statement shared on social media, the union expressed: “Our most sincere condolences to his family and friends following this terrible loss. A big hug.”

Bufalos Cedral, the amateur cycling team that Manuel was a part of, paid tribute by saying: “Today we have suffered a great loss. Our friend and companion Manuel has gone up to Heaven. Rest in peace Manuel Alejandro Infante Puente.” Just last month, nine people tragically died when a stage collapsed due to heavy winds at a campaign rally ahead of the presidential elections in San Pedro Garza Garcia, located in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. The state governor reported at the time that at least 121 people were injured in the incident.
