Coronation Street star Daniel Brocklebank has announced his exit from the ITV soap after 11 years of playing Billy Mayhew
Another Coronation Street exit has apparently been confirmed, with actor Daniel Brocklebank announcing his departure.
In news that will no doubt shock viewers amid a string of recent exits, and more ahead, the actor shared his “sadness” to be leaving the role after some huge storylines for the character in recent years. According to reports his character vicar Billy Mayhew will leave the show next year in a major new story yet to be revealed.
After 11 years in the popular role, the character will bow out with the actor hinting it was not his decision. It’s said to be an issue led new plot that will see him leave the show for good next year, while details are being kept under wraps.
Billy has not been on screen much recently, while he will feature in scenes again next week with newcomer Theo Silverton. Late last year we saw Billy lose his husband Paul Foreman to motor neurone disease.
Billy spiralled as he grieved for his partner, with difficult scenes filmed for the character. Billy has recently been back on track, but now it’s been reported the character will not be staying on the show.
Speaking to The Sun, Daniel said: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work.
“I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.” Actor Daniel joined the soap in 2014.
