Actor and reality star, Ryan Thomas, believes a carrier pigeon – he’s named Dougie James after his dad – is a reincarnation of his father, who sadly died in 2020
Coronation Street star, Ryan Thomas, has given an update on the pigeon he reckons is his dad. The actor and reality star, 41, told followers he’s convinced the bird – he’s named Dougie James after his dad – is a reincarnation of his father, who sadly died in 2020.
After fans were left gobsmacked by Ryan’s reveal in which he insisted the bird was trying to communicate with him, he’s hopped back on Instagram with more news about his feathered friend – as well questioning as his state of mind.
Nursing a cup of tea in his garden, sporting a beanie hat and sunglasses, the dad-of-three told fans that Dougie has disappeared with a solemn look on his face.

“Every morning Dougie was in the garden,” he says soberly. “Every evening, Dougie was in the garden. I’ve come down this morning and Dougie’s not there. I’m thinking to myself. He’s not coming back, it’s over.” With a heavy sigh, Ryan adds: “Every morning, I feel like ‘that’s it, he’s going to leave’ and then…”
Laughing, panning the camera up to the roof of his house, Ryan reveals Dougie, perched happily on a TV aerial as he exclaims: “You’ve no idea how happy this makes me. Go on Dougie!”
However, in his next video, the Dancing On Ice star asked his followers to vote on whether he was ‘losing the plot’ after admitting that his friend was concerned about him.
Still nursing his cup of tea in his back garden, he said: “My mate said: ‘Looking from the outside in, it looks like you’ve lost the plot a bit.” Chuckling, Ryan then addresses his followers, saying: “Whether it’s a yes or no, I don’t care, but do you think I’ve lost the plot?”
Unable to stop laughing, he concludes: “I’m sitting in my back garden, looking at a pigeon, which could possibly be my dad.”
Ryan was in tears last week as he took to Instagram, cradling the pigeon, sharing his newfound connection. He broke down as he told his followers he believed the bird was the reincarnated spirit of his late father, who was a well-known soul singer.
The actor lost his dad in 2020, but Ryan believes Dougie may have returned, as the same pigeon has visited him over the past few days.
On Tuesday night (2 September), Ryan took to Instagram, explaining that the the same bird had visited him several times, and has even tried to get in the house when he wasn’t home.
“You are not going to believe this,” he said. “I’ve gone out with the kids all day today. Lucy’s [Mecklenburgh] been at home. She calls me at 5 o’clock and she says, ‘I could hear tap tap tap tap tap at the back window.’ I said no, please tell me you’re lying.
“And she sends me a video of my dad. My dad came back. He was trying to fly into the windows, try and get in.
Ryan went on to share a picture he took of the pigeon and set the snap to one of his dad’s songs, Still. Captioning the post, he wrote: “Don’t know what’s going on here but I’m so connected to him.” He then went on to joke that the bird’s markings looked very similar to his dad’s moustache.
He even called Psychic Sally Morgan for advice. When asked if the pigeon could be Dougie, she responded: “Yes!”
