One woman has shared her simple and effective 35p hack to get rid of limescale build-up on taps. She promises it will make them look as good as new with very little scrubbing
You can make your taps gleam like new with minimal effort using a product that’s available for just 35p.
It often feels like you’re endlessly scrubbing away at home, pouring in hours of hard work and sweat, only to realise that some areas just never seem to get clean.
Stubborn grime and stains that have accumulated over time can be incredibly difficult to remove, leading you to believe that you might need to replace certain appliances to restore their appearance. Taps often fall into this category due to the effects of constant water exposure.
Hard water leaves an unsightly calcium build-up on faucets, and even in soft water areas, some stains will remain over time. If your taps are spoiling the look of your immaculate bathroom or kitchen, one cleaning expert claims she has the perfect solution to easily remove the stains and gunk.
The best part is that it involves a product that is readily available (you may already have it in your cupboard), is more environmentally friendly than traditional cleaning products, and can be purchased from Aldi for just 35p, so it won’t break the bank!
On her website, LemonsLavenderandlaundry, cleaning and life-organising enthusiast Erin says this particular tip is one of her all-time favourites because it requires little to no scrubbing. The ingredient she uses, white vinegar, is natural and therefore doesn’t contain harmful chemicals, and it “actually works”.
A cleaning buff has shared a vinegar hack for shiny taps but issued a caution: test it on a hidden spot first to prevent wrecking your tap’s finish. She also warned against letting vinegar touch any granite surfaces as it could spoil the material.
All you need is white vinegar, a bowl, and some paper towels. For gleaming taps, just follow her steps:
Pour vinegar into a bowl, saturate several paper towels with it, adding more if needed. Slap these vinegar-soaked towels onto areas plagued by hard water stains or limescale.
Leave them in place for one hour. Once time’s up, peel away the towels, using them to wipe off lingering stains – they should come away effortlessly.
For those fiddly bits where gunk won’t budge, reach for a toothpick. The whizz demonstrated her own tap transformation with a shocking before-and-after of her once calcium-cloaked black tap now looking mint condition, captioned “how crazy is that? ! “.
Her trick isn’t just for taps – it works wonders on shower heads too, proved with snaps of another revamp. And yes, she even cleared up her fridge’s water dispenser tray this way.
