Greater Lincolnshire Mayor Andrea Jenkyns – who branded herself ‘a bit of a rebel’ – then entered the stage in a fully sequinned blue jumpsuit singing about ‘insomniacs’

Reform UK conference kicked off with one of its mayors astonishingly singing her way onto the stage while dressed head to toe in sequins.

After being introduced for her speech in the usual way, Greater Lincolnshire Mayor Andrea Jenkyns – who branded herself “a bit of a rebel” – then surprisingly entered the stage in a fully sequinned blue jumpsuit singing about “insomniacs”.

In a bizarre entrance, the former Tory minister – and Boris Johnson ally – belted out her own original song as the audience gave her applause.

As she strutted in high heels, Dame Andrea repeatedly sang the line “I’m an insomniac” as she spread both her arms out to the crowd, in a strange attempt to supposedly mimic a pop star.

After she finished singing, Dame Andrea admitted people might be wondering why she was wearing a sequin jumpsuit and “ridiculously high heels that I can hardly walk in now”.

“No, I’m not auditioning to be a ginger spice tribute act, but let me tell you a little story,” she said. “Now, I co-wrote this song over 20 years ago with a now dearly departed friend, God bless him. At the time, I was in a rock band, and I was always a bit of a rebel.

“Then I became the Conservative MP and I dressed more demure, though the rebel was still bubbling away under the surface.”

As she turned her strange song into an attack on Labour, Dame Andrea said: “We are a nation of insomniacs, as Britain is sleepwalking into disaster, but Reform is waking up the establishment. So Reformers, it’s time to unleash our inner Brit pop. It’s time to unleash the spirit of the British and get to work on saving our country.”

In her speech, Dame Andrea went on to rant about how she joined Reform UK because it is the “party of the brave” before lavishing cringeworthy praise on Nigel Farage.

“I joined because of you Nigel because you will save Britain,”she said. “Now you in the audience are the true believers of Britain and the rock chick is firmly back.”

The former Tory figure was a close ally of Mr Johnson and in summer 2022 she was captured sticking her middle finger up at ‘Bye Boris’ crowds outside Downing Street sparking fury. Dame Andrea, who was the MP for Morley and Outwood, also served as a minister under Liz Truss.
