Vile James Williams previously served lengthy stints in jail over raping boys and committing other sex offences against children – a judge ruled he must serve at least 4 years and eight months in prison

A convicted child rapist has been jailed after he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 12-year-old boy.

Monster James William, 34, originally from Lancashire, had recently been released from jail when he approached the boy during the summer holidays in August 2022. He then spoke to the boy and offered him £20 to show him around Carlisle, in Cumbria. William then gave the boy vodka and Red Bull mixed together in a bottle, which the victim drank. He then isolated the victim from a friend and walked him down a path.

When the pair were alone in a field, William pulled the boy’s shirt out of his trousers “with the intention of the boy becoming naked,” prosecutor Peter Wilson said, according to ITVNews. “It was at this point the boy heard his mum screaming his name which caused the defendant to stop and the boy to run away and back to his mum.” Police were alerted shortly afterward and William was arrested.

He initially denied sexually assaulting the boy but later admitted to kidnap and sexually abusing the child. In moving statements, the victim’s mother outlined the impact the experience had on the boy and the family. “He is scared to close his eyes and can see the man’s face,” she said.

“His night terrors are awful. I do not know what to do to help him. I never imagined something like this would happen to my family in Carlisle. No-one should have to feel the way he has been made to feel, especially as a child”, she added. “I fear that this incident will continue impacting my son’s and family’s lives for years to come -he is a totally different boy to who he was before this happened.”

William, of no fixed abode, had previously served lengthy jail terms for raping boys as well as other child sex attacks. Judge Michael Fanning sitting in Carlisle Crown Court said William was a dangerous offender and was ruled as being a high risk to children. The monster was ordered to serve a minimum of four years and eight months before being considered for release. It is clear your motive was wholly sexual.” Judge Fannin said. “Who knows what would have happened if your victim’s mother hadn’t arrived at the scene.”

Following William’s sentencing , DC King said: “William is a dangerous offender who is now behind bars. This was a terrifying incident for the victim and his family, and I hope today’s sentence brings them some closure. I would like to reassure our communities that incidents of this nature are extremely rare.”
