Joan Dickinson, 73, from Darwen, Lancashire, alleges a staffie-type was off its lead and came to attack her dog which caused her to be dragged over and break her wrist

A woman claims she was “left for dead” by another pet owner after she was dragged to the ground, when a staffie-type went for her own dog she was walking.

Joan Dickinson suffered a broken wrist after falling to the ground in the terrifying incident on December 17 when she was walking with her dog Monty near her home in Ribble Avenue in Darwen, Lancashire.

The 73-year-old said the Staffie-type dog was off its lead when it went to attack 11-year-old Monty, leading her to be dragged to the ground. The other dog was with a woman who Joan said simply “got in her taxi” and left her “for dead” on the pavement.

Joan, who had only moved to her new home five weeks before the incident, said she later reported the incident but was told that no further action would be taken.

“I was left for dead outside where I had lived for five weeks. I escaped with a fractured wrist. No cameras, no witnesses, no help. I’ve never felt so alone as I did that night. The whole thing has made me think about my personal safety,” she told LancsLive.

After the incident Joan was taken to hospital where she had to be fitted with a plaster cast due to the broken wrist. The cast has since been removed and Joan must now undergo regular physiotherapy sessions.

Joan had sought camera footage of what happened but in the end it appears to be just her word against the other dog owner. She added: “I would suggest we all get those doorbell cameras. I can’t visualise anyone in Sunnyhurst leaving someone like that but people do take their dogs out late at night.”

Joan reportedly said that police told her the other dog owner had claimed her pet was on a lead which she denies was the case. “She told them her dog was under control and I tripped over my dog’s lead which was another lie,” Joan continued. “She must have seen me fall but still got in her cab.”
