Dave Allen could break into the big time with victory over giant Russian Arslanbek Makhmudov in front of 8,000 fans in Sheffield tonight

Dave Allen takes on Arslanbek Makhmudov tonight

Dave Allen takes centre stage tonight as he takes on the giant Arslanbek Makhmudov in a fight which could make or break his career.

Allen’s topsy-turvy career has been marked by a failure to perform on the big stage but a stoppage victory over Johnny Fisher earlier this year suggested he has turned a corner. And if he can defeat his Russian rival in front of 8,000 fans in Sheffield tonight, Allen could set himself up for a mega-fight with Detonay Wilder.

But Makhmudov was once one of the most feared fighters in the heavyweight division until a couple of defeats dimmed his aura. He will fancy his chances of beating the home favourite tonight, however, and you can find everything you need to know about tonight’s fights below…

What time will Allen vs Makhmudov start tonight?

Dave Allen and Arslanbek Makhmudov are likely to walk to the ring at around 10.30pm tonight with the fight starting shortly afterwards. The start time of the main event could change, however, depending on how long the undercard fights take to complete. The first fights of the night will get underway at around 5pm.

Quotes corner

Dave Allen: “I’ll probably never be heavyweight champion on the world, but if I beat this man to my left, people will say that I’m a top top Heavyweight, and that is all I want. This is my world title fight on Saturday, this is it for me. When I’m in the moody I’m a very very hard man to shift.”

Arslanbek Makhmudov: “He’s a nice guy, a nice person. A family guy, similar like me. It’s nothing personal, Saturday night it’s just boxing. Whoever boxes better wins, it’s just sport. We’re both earning money to put food on the table for our families. That’s it. Dave has a very interesting style. He’s a good boxer. It’s going to be two different styles on Saturday and we will see who is going to be better.”
