David Beckham’s impressive physique is helped by a former Olympian who is now his personal trainer

Football icon David Beckham, who is just weeks shy of his 50th birthday, has says he is feeling better than ever. Ahead of reaching his half-century milestone in May, the former manchester-united-fc>Manchester United legend graces the cover of Men’s Health to discuss his post-retirement fitness regime.

With retirement now over a decade behind him, Beckham continues to maintain an incredible level of fitness. He revealed his health and wellness routines are just as rigorous as when he played football professionally, but in completely different areas.

While he recalled diet being laughed out of Old Trafford, he has now released his own nutrition brand. He has also stopped ignoring his upper body and now brings his wife, Victoria Beckham, along to the gym too.

David’s current trainer is none other than former Olympian and close pal, Bobby Rich. He reflected on the shift he has seen since retirement: “I didn’t have pecs until I met Bob. You could say I’ve gone up a few cup sizes as a result. Since retiring, I’ve put a bit of meat in my pecs.”

Adding strength training elements like pull-ups into his daily regimen, Beckham admitted he has also relaxed his cardio routines slightly in recent years compared to when he would opt for two SoulCycle sessions daily.

With Victoria in gym alongside him, he still gets arguably more cardio than he likes. The former Spice Girl is an enthusiast when it comes to the gruelling StairMaster and Versaclimber machines, much to David’s dismay.

Nevertheless, they make it a point to hit the gym alongside their trainer Bobby five or six times a week. David said: “I love training with Victoria. We give each other plenty of grief. She’s not very good at listening to Bobby… She does her own thing. She’s not great at resting.”

The father-of-four has also maintained his competitive edge, particularly when his sons were younger. He reminisced about letting them win at games like snooker or table tennis, while they in turn would “let me keep up” on the ski slopes as they grew older.

In addition to enjoying holiday activities such as skiing and snowboarding – sports he was once barred from during his football days – David is now also keen on padel. While in Miami, the 49 year old indulges in the sport three times a week, fitting it around his daily exercise routine.

Reflecting on the numerous injuries and rigorous training his body has endured over the years, the celebrated athlete added: “Do you know what, my body’s actually feeling better than it has done for a long time.”
