TV icon Davina McCall sets the record straight on whether she’ll marry Michael Douglas. During their latest episode of the Making the Cut podcast, she also set clear birthday expectations.
The 57-year-old star opened up about her romantic journey with hair stylist Michael, whom she’s been dating since 2019, and who was by her side as she overcame a health scare involving the removal of a benign brain tumour in November.
Despite talks of marriage sparking since her surgery, when the conversation turned to potential birthday gifts, Davina didn’t shy away from dismissing the wedding buzz with a pointed statement. As Michael mused the idea of getting a miniature 3D-printed scan of the couple—perfect for a wedding cake topper—Davina shut down any speculation, saying: “We’re not getting married by the way, anyone who is thinking about this, we are not getting married but, if you are getting married, an amazing thing to have on top of your cake.”

However, birthday wishes were not off the table; while keen on the creative present, Davina made one thing clear about her forthcoming celebration: “But wait, I also need a surprise, I don’t want to know what I’m getting.”
Their candid exchange highlighted Michael’s gift-giving quandary—wanting to avoid lavish presents like pricey jewellery because Davina simply “doesn’t need more stuff”.
Michael explained the challenges of buying gifts for Davina, stating, “I sometimes find it difficult to buy you a present because you’ve got lots of stuff already and you don’t need anymore stuff. You’re a very low maintenance girl really.”, reports Bristol Live.
Davina expressed her fondness for the “experiences” Michael buys for them to share, saying, “I’d go to anything with you. That’s my favourite thing that you do, you get me tickets to things and I love it.”
Michael has previously discussed the possibility of proposing to Davina, telling Closer magazine, “I don’t know.”
He continued, “We often talk about it, but I don’t think so. What I love about us is we’re not tied to each other and that’s what keeps us there in a way.”
He added: “There’s something nice about being independent people so we’re working out what it would mean for us to be married and if it’s something we should do and if we need to do it or not.”
Although they largely keep their relationship private, Davina and Michael have been together for five years, after both split from their ex partners. Davina was married to Matthew Robertson for 17 years, with the former couple sharing three children, Holly, Chester, and Tilly.
She and Michael first met when he styled her hair during her Big Brother days and the pair remained good friends until they realised they had feelings for each other.
They went official in 2019 and in January 2023, Davina confirmed that Michael had moved into her home over Christmas 2022, with the pair watching the King’s Speech together along with Davina’s sister Rebecca.
