The former Big Brother host has been very open with fans about health and fitness routines – including what goes on in her kitchen

Davina McCall enjoys a cheap and simple-to-make breakfast packed with health benefits. It could be an option for those looking to cut out snacking as part of their New Year’s resolution.

The 57-year-old recently opened up about a brain tumour scare. The Masked Singer judge and mum-of-three recently underwent major surgery to remove a colloid cyst, a rare fluid-filled benign tumour, in her brain.

The former face of Big Brother has always been transparent with fans about her wellbeing, health and fitness, documenting her choices on Instagram. In an interview with Hello Magazine, she disclosed some easy-to-copy diet staples that keep her feeling her best through tasty but wholesome meals.

One item that Davina swears by each morning is a good breakfast. She told HELLO!: “I would probably have granola and milk for breakfast. But sometimes, I’ll do a crumpet if I’m naughty.”

Granola is typically stocked in supermarket cereal sections and comes in a range of ready-made flavours. Some people prefer to start with an unflavoured base and build up their own custom combination using fruits and yoghurts for a naturally sweet start to the day.

You can grab a pack of granola yourself for fairly little money. There’s a basic version in Asda starting at just £1.90 a box, working out as 38p per serving.

The high protein cereal does help stop the ‘hunger hormone’ ghrelin from running rampant and instead promotes another type of hormone to take over – leptin. This encourages a feeling of fullness, which can then help fend off the temptation to snack between meals.

Maintaining this attitude can help preserve or enhance weight loss in the long run. Granola is also a good fibre source, which can contribute to feeling full after eating too.

However, people should be careful not to overconsume this seemingly healthy choice. Pre-packed options can sometimes be high in sugars or have the potential to become higher in calories and saturated fats as we add different toppings, meaning it’s best to check the labels properly.

The busy mum pairs her morning meal with a cup of collagen-enhanced tea. In an interview with Get The Gloss, she explained that she opts for bovine collagen, which can be bought in powdered or pill form.

Experts at Healthline have reported that this particular type of protein, mainly derived from cows, has many health benefits. It’s associated with arthritis relief and bone loss prevention.

It also boosts the types of collagen that make up your skin, meaning that bovine collagen may be especially useful for reducing wrinkles, promoting elasticity, and increasing skin moisture. Bovine collagen is safe and easy to add to your diet – but always consult a doctor if you are unsure.
