Victim Kailem Reece Gibson, 28, died hours after being stabbed in Manchester. Two men have been arrested in connection with the tragic incident, police have said
A young dad who had a “heart of gold” and was “deeply loved” has died after being stabbed in Manchester.
Emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing at an address in Gilmerton Drive, Newton Heath, last night. Victim Kailem Reece Gibson, 28, was taken to the hospital for treatment, but he died from his injuries this morning, leaving his family heartbroken. Two men have been arrested in relation to the incident and remain in custody for questioning while Greater Manchester Police carry out a murder investigation.
Since Kailem’s death, tributes have been flooding in on social media, with an online fundraiser set up to help his family pay for his funeral. Kailem’s loved ones described him as a “deeply loved son, brother, father, boyfriend, nephew cousin and friend” who “touched the lives of everyone he met with his warm smile, kind spirit, and heart of gold.”
The family wrote in a heartbreaking statement published by GMP: “Always willing to lend a hand, Kailem had a gift for making others feel cared for and never hesitated to help anyone in need. He will be remembered not only for the love he gave so freely but also for the way he made life brighter for all those around him. His family and friends will forever cherish the moments shared, the laughter created, and the love he left behind.
“Though his time here was far too short, Kailem’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Forever 28 , forever loved, never forgotten.”
A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He was being quizzed by detectives on Saturday afternoon. A 44-year-old man was also detained on suspicion of assisting an offender.
In the wake of the incident, Chief Inspector Peter Crowe from GMP’s City of Manchester district said: “Two men have been swiftly arrested after a man was fatally stabbed last night on Gilmerton Drive. They remain in police custody for questioning.
“This morning, the victim has sadly died in hospital from his injuries. We send our deepest condolences to his loved ones, and they remain in our thoughts.
“We understand this tragic incident will have shaken our communities and we want to reassure people that we will not tolerate violence and use of weapons on our streets. We will not stop until we find offenders and bring them to justice.
“Our residents deserve to feel safe to go about their daily lives without fear. Over the following days the community will see an increased policing presence in this area; we will be out to offer support as they would rightly expect us to.”
