Steve Aoki has paid tribute to former One Direction star Liam Payne following his shock death as he admitted he ‘can’t believe’ the singer has died aged 31

DJ and record producer Steve Aoki penned a “difficult” tribute to his “dear friend” Liam Payne.

The singer died at the age of 31 yesterday after falling from the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Tributes have been flooding in for the former One Direction star following the shock news. Steve posted a series of photos of himself with Liam of them on stage together as well as at embracing each other at a home.

Alongside the photos, Steve wrote: “I’ll miss u dear friend. It’s so difficult to write this out. Doesn’t make sense, I can’t believe you’re gone brother. We had so many amazing memories together on and off the stage. A true legend and a kinder soul with a heart of gold. Miss u my brother.”

One Direction also released a heartbreaking statement following the tragic death of Liam. His bandmates have said they are “completely devastated” by the news of his death, adding: “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.” In a statement signed “Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry”, Liam Payne’s One Direction bandmates said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing.

“In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”

The One Direction star fell from the third floor of a hotel building in the Argentinian capital yesterday. Police, firefighters and ambulances were seen outside of a hotel building after Liam tragically fell. A body was found in an internal patio of the hotel. The police were called to the hotel by the hotel manager. It’s believed that Liam fell from around 13 or 14 ft and suffered “very serious injuries incompatible with life.”

In a statement, the local ambulance manager told TN: “At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel. There is an internal courtyard where the victim fell, with tables and chairs: the hotel’s confectionery shop operates there. The space has a retractable roof that was open at the time. Fortunately, there were no other people there.”

The late hitmaker was holidaying with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, who recently returned back to her hometown in America. Earlier in the month, Liam reunited with bandmate Niall Horan as he watched his show in Argentina. Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have penned emotional tributes to their former band member, as they both called him a “brother”.
