Ekaterina Bivol saw her Instagram account flooded with abusive comments from fans of her ex-husband after he overcame Artur Beterbiev in their rematch in Saudi Arabia

Fans of Dmitry Bivol have bombarded his ex-wife with vile comments on social media after he beat Artur Beterbiev to claim the light-heavyweight world title.

Bivol got his revenge on Beterbiev by triumphing in their rematch in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night. Beterbiev claimed a contentious victory in the first clash in October, but lost his title as his opponent produced a scintillating performance in Riyadh.

While one judge scored the bout as a draw, the other two marked it 116-112 and 115-113 in Bivol’s favour to hand the Russian the title. The 34-year-old claimed the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF titles with victory, making him the undisputed champion in the light-heavyweight division.

Some of Bivol’s fans went straight to the Instagram page of his ex-wife Ekaterina in the aftermath of the win to rub it in her face. Ekaterina and Dmitry went through a very public and very acrimonious divorce in 2023 and she has accused the boxer of abuse and controlling behaviour during their marriage.

She irked his fans by openly supporting Beterbiev during the first fight and celebrating her ex-husband’s defeat. Back then she was alleged to have written on social media: “Karma caught up with this a**hole. Artur, I’m happy for you. Now, my work is in court.

“F***, honestly, that’s what you deserve. You got scared. Karma reached Bivol. Go f*** yourself. No, honestly, go f*** yourself. I was right.”

With Bivol having triumphed in the rematch, his fans filled the comments section of Ekaterina’s posts with abuse. “Change the last name, you’re spoiling the last name of the champion,” one wrote.

“God, what a thrill to come here after the fight, I was looking forward to it more than the fight itself!” another added. Another wrote: “Justice exists”.

The ex-couple were married for 10 years and share two boys together, Miron and Nikon. Ekaterina has claimed that her ex-husband hit her, told her to get an abortion and has financially neglected his children – allegations he denies.

Speaking after his win, Bivol said: “I’m so happy. I went through a lot the last few years. I lost and I felt a little bit easier, I didn’t have as much pressure like last time. I just wanted to work from the first round until the end of the 12th. I did enough.

“I was better, I was pushing myself more, I was more confident, I was lighter, I just wanted to win so much today. I just told myself he could start from the beginning to destroy me and disturb me, it was hard to keep him distanced over the first four rounds. I was tired but he was tired also. I had to punch more.”
