Donald Trump has broken his silence after his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky at St. Peter’s Basilica and blasted Vladimir Putin for ‘stringing him along’ just a day after the US President said they were ‘very close to a deal’
Donald Trump has broken his silence after his face-off with Volodymyr Zelensky at Pope Francis’ funeral, and turned on Vladimir Putin. The pair were pictured sat together in in St Peter’s Basilica on Saturday morning having a private talk about a potential peace deal to end Russia’s terror invasion of Ukraine.
The US President has broken his silence after this meeting with a post that suggests Trump is turning on evil Putin, after continued air strikes even after Putins apparent “Easter ceasefire”. In a scathing Truth Social post, Trump said: “With all of that being said, there was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days.”
The US President then suggested Mad Vlad had been playing him with Trump even floating more sanctions against the dictator. He added: “It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through “Banking” or “Secondary Sanctions?” Too many people are dying!!!”
This dramatic post and change of tone from Trump came after Zelensky also broke his silence on the meeting, which he said could “become historic”. He wrote on Telegram: “Good meeting. One-on-one, we managed to discuss a lot.
“We hope for a result from all the things that were said. Protection of the lives of our people. Complete and unconditional ceasefire. Reliable and lasting peace that will prevent a recurrence of war. A very symbolic meeting that has the potential to become historic if we achieve joint results. Thank you, President Donald Trump!”
These hopeful statements came after a comparatively lukewarm assessment from The White House, which called the talks “very productive”. This 15-minute meeting was organised for the pair after they paid their respects to Pope Francis, Rao TV Italia reported.
This face off was the first between the pair since the explosive Oval Office bust up this February – where Vice President JD Vance berated Zelensky for not saying “thank you” and for not wearing a suit. Trump has fluctuated in his support for and against Kyiv, with him saying earlier this week that Zelensky has “no cards to play” in a peace deal with Russia.
A horror Russian strike overnight on Thursday in Kyiv left at least nine people dead and injured around 63 others in a brutal attack. Trump sent an incredible message to Putin begging him to “STOP” after the deadly blitz.
The US President wrote: “I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!”
