For the first time in its six-decade history Doritios have changed their chip shape from a triangle

In a bold twist, Doritos has announced a shake-up to its classic triangular chip shape for the first time in 60 years.

The snack that was born in a Disneyland, California restaurant in the early ’60s is set to temporarily change to a square shape.

Doritos might have hit UK shelves in 1994, but it didn’t take long for the brand to become a staple in British homes, with flavors like Cool Original and Tangy Cheese winning over taste buds nationwide.

Now the brand has decided to switch things up, causing a stir of excitement and dismay among its fans.

The game-changing move follows a series of mysterious ads hinting at “The shape of things to come.”

Across social media Doritos devotees urged the brand not to tamper with their beloved triangle, while rival brands have seized the opportunity to join the banter.

Krispy Kreme and Walkers Squares couldn’t resist a jibe at Doritos’ new direction, flaunting slogans such as “The shape of things already,” alongside images of their own square-shaped treats.

Doritos spokesperson Alex Nicholas revealed: “We’ve always been famous for being triangular-until now, square Doritos were unheard of. But it’s happening.”

So what’s behind this unexpected change? It all down to Doritos’ new collaboration with A Minecraft Movie, the much-anticipated cinematic adaptation of the legendary video game.

Doritos is rolling out a special edition of square chips in a promotional stunt. However, there’s a catch.

Only 100 bags of the exclusive “Chilli Heatwave A MineCraft Movie” Doritos will include the new square-shaped chips.

But lucky fans who discover square chips in their packs will win an astonishing cash prize of £10,000.

For those fans who don’t strike gold with a square chip in person, there’s another opportunity to win. Each promotional pack is equipped with a QR code that could unveil a digital version of the square-shaped snack and unlock extra prizes.

In honour of the Minecraft collaboration, Doritos is also rolling out two new, game-inspired flavours: Creeper Vinegar and Ghast barbecue.

“We know our triangle shape is iconic, so changing it had to be for something special,” Nicholas further commented.
