The driver of a white Seat struck a number of other vehicles parked up outside homes in Oldham before landing on its side

People on a residential street were shocked when they walked out of their homes on Tuesday, to the sight of a badly damaged car that had flipped onto its side after smashing into parked vehicles.

The crash took place as many people were returning home from work at around 5pm, with police and fire services rushing to the scene on Block Lane in the Oldham area of Greater Manchester. Images show the flipped car severely damaged, with its windscreen and other parts of the vehicle clearly shattered.

These images also show severe damage to the white car’s roof and personal possessions spilling out into the road after the rear windscreen smashed during the crash.

Returning from work to find the disruption, a local resident expressed little surprise to the Manchester Evening News: “It is shocking, but not surprising. Block Lane has become a race track over the last few years, and it’s only getting worse.”

The driver of the vehicle is believed to have hit several vehicles before flipping on the narrow street, where residents park on both sides of the highway. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported following the incident.

The thoroughfare was sealed off for hours as emergency crews worked at the site, eventually clearing away the wreckage.

Greater Manchester Police have yet to release further information, while a representative from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) elaborated on their response: “Shortly before 5pm on Tuesday 11 March, one fire engine from Chadderton Community Fire Station was called to attend a road traffic collision involving three cars on Block Lane, Chadderton.

“Firefighters arrived quickly and worked alongside Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe before departing after approximately half an hour at the scene.”
