The simple gadget ‘exceeded expectations’ of some shoppers who found it ‘great for small spaces’
It’s getting to that time of year when people spot the sun shining and take the chance to hang their washing up to dry outside. Drying your clothes outside is a cost-effective way to cut down on your energy bills and make the most of the very fleeting British summer weather.
But for some, it may seem like a dream if they have small gardens or a limited outdoor space. Bulky drying racks might be a pain to set up, and some may think that the hassle is not worth it.
Whilst running a traditional clothesline might not work, there are solutions out there. Dunelm has a £25 Wall-Mounted Airer that holds a surprising amount in such a compact space.

It’s a mounted design – easy to fix onto a fence or garden wall – that uses a mechanism to stretch out from something unassuming to “hold and dry approximately 20kg worth of clothing”. And, when you’re done with the laundry, it’s “easy enough” to fold away and keep out of the way.
Plenty vouched for the ‘rust-resistant’ tool being great to stop the house from being clogged up with damp laundry. One said: “Great idea to dry clothes if you’re short on space.”
Another added: “This has exceeded my expectations. Neat, tidy and easy to use.” A third wrote: “A great buy. Just what I needed for my small back garden.”
Someone else put: “A wonderful way to hang washing. I was using an outside rotary dryer which was difficult to open and close and increasingly difficult to place in the garden. This airer is lightweight and very easy to pull open without any heavy lifting. I am amazed by how much line there is for the clothes to be hung, which is able to take a full wash load. Very pleased!”
But, it wasn’t all glowing. One claimed: “Used three times and the arm has all broken and disconnected from the wall. Very poor quality and cannot handle any weight – buckles under a bit of wind.”
Another warned: “Don’t overload it could do with a bit more strength. Make sure you use raw plugs and sturdy screws to mount it!”
There are similar options available elsewhere. The Range is selling a similar-looking Wall Mounted Drying Line for £15 online, reduced from £29.99. If the reviews about flimsy designs are putting you off, you could try this Heavy Duty 5 Arm 26m Wall Mounted Aluminium Rotary Airer from Sizi. It’s sold via Amazon for £30.99.
