Australian TV presenter Elspeth Hussey has revealed she is expecting her second baby, months after welcoming her first child.

The 38-year-old journalist and her husband, Alastair Dillon, welcomed their son Monty in October last year. While she admitted they wanted to expand their family quickly, Elspeth said she didn’t expect to fall pregnant so soon after their son was born.

She revealed her second pregnancy came as a “complete surprise” and explained that she first started suspecting something when she fell asleep while assembling her son’s cot. She then took a pregnancy test, which was positive, but she thought it was wrong at the beginning.

However, further tests then confirmed she was indeed pregnant. She told The Advertiser: “I fell asleep halfway through assembling Monty’s cot and thought that was a bit odd. I did a pregnancy test and it lit up. I was convinced it was wrong, particularly after discovering the box was out of date.”

But Elspeth then bought two more tests, which confirmed her pregnancy. The mum admitted that being pregnant while caring for a nine-month-old baby and working at the same time can be “tough” especially because of her morning sickness.

The 7News presenter said she now has “lots of power naps in the recliner chair in the meeting room.” She also confirmed that she and her husband know the gender of their baby, who is due in January, but don’t want to share it publicly.

Elspeth regularly shares family photos with little Monty on Instagram – and days after the baby was born, she posted a carousel of images with the caption: “10 days of loving our beautiful boy. Monty Michael Dillon arrived a little earlier than expected on 8th October at 1:39pm – weighing 2.9 kilos – and changing our lives forever. We’ve spent hours staring at him, our camera rolls are full, and our hearts are exploding.”

She also revealed that Monty was a “honeymoon baby” and said she disguised her bump through her clothes. However, she admitted that her colleagues eventually started suspecting that she was pregnant. Elspeth and Alastair tied the knot at St Mary’s Church, North Adelaide, in January 2024.

Some of her recent social media posts include photos of Monty in his cot, as well as images of the little child smiling alongside his parents. When Monty turned six months old, the proud mum wrote on Instagram: “6 months of our book-loving, bath-obsessed, beautiful boy. It feels like yesterday that we brought you home. We can’t imagine our lives without you.”

Elspeth returned to work at 7News at the end of April and, sharing a photo of herself at her desk, she wrote: “Mum brain is definitely a thing but excited to be back on the desk using the other side of my brain again.” Fans were excited for her return, with one writing: “She’s back.” Another posted: “So great to see you back.”

A third said: “So good to see you back tonight. You did a brilliant job.” Someone else said: “Yay! Yippie! Woo hoo! So wonderful to see you on the news again… we have missed you so much!!!” A fan added: “Love seeing you back, your little man is a sweety.”
