Angelika, the former partner of Sara Shariff’s father Urfan, has spoken of her horror experience during their relationship, which ended after she fled to Poland
An ex-partner of Sara Sharif’s murderous father has spoken of their time together – when there were already serious “red flags”.
Sara’s dad Urfan Sharif, 42, and stepmother Beinash Batool, 30, were found guilty of murdering the 10-year-old on Wednesday. Her uncle, 29-year-old Faisal Malik, was found guilty of causing or allowing her death.
Little Sara was found dead on a bed in her home in Woking on August 10 last year, after being regularly beaten with a cricket bat and metal pole. Now, a former partner of Sharif has spoken of her own hell at his hands.
Named only as Angelika, she claimed he hid her passport and even blamed her when she suffered a miscarriage, causing her to flee to Poland. “Everything was perfect in the beginning, but because I was so young I didn’t really notice the red flags,” she told MailOnline.
The pair reportedly met when Angelika was 17. She recalled how Sharif’s jealousy, which at first was flattering, soon took a dark turn. She said: “His friends were always around. If I went just a few metres away from him, to the park or to the shop, he already knew where I was, who I was talking to. At first I was flattered… but after a year it got worse.”
Recalling one incident, she went on: “He started shouting at me, he was so aggressive. He opened my legs saying he wanted to know I wasn’t cheating on him.”
In a report to police read out in court, she said he punched her in the face in another incident. She was then locked in their bedroom, but managed to escape through a small window.
Sara was found with ten spinal fractures and further fractures to her right collar bone, both shoulder blades, both arms, both hands, three separate fingers, bones near the wrist in each hand, two ribs and her hyoid bone in the neck. Plastic bags bound with packaging tape were used to hood her and she was forced to wear a nappy, as she could not use the toilet when she was tied up.
She had been burned on her buttocks with an iron and had six bite marks on her body. Sharif routinely beat his daughter while her wrists and ankles were tied with packaging tape.
