Andrew Okpaje described the abuse he suffered as ‘horrible’ and ‘shocking’ after former Miss Scotland Lucy Thomson called him the ‘n-word’ when he tried to remove her from the Edinburgh City 7’s rugby competition
A beauty queen has been “dethroned” after a drunken rampage at a rugby event in Scotland where she racially abused one of the security guards who apprehended her. Lucy Thomson, 26, won the Miss Scotland title in 2022, but just 11 months later she was being thrown out of the Edinburgh City 7’s rugby competition for her vicious outburst against the two MK Security employees.
While abusing Andrew Okpaje, who she also bit, she screamed “Do you know who I am?” before biting the other security guard too. Thomson was bang to rights after footage of the incident went viral on social media, showing her and her sister being thrown out.

Mr Okpaje relayed the “horrible” abuse he suffered in court, explaining how he was notified of a woman who was under the influence at around 7pm. Deciding she was too drunk to stay, he started to escort her off the premises, but the beauty queen responded with violence.
He said: “As we got closer to the exit I was assaulted. We were holding her and trying to be as gentle as possible and as I had my arm up she went to bite it. It left a mark on my hand. I looked at her in shock and then she proceeded to call me the ‘n’ word. She looked directly at me and with confidence she said ‘f*** you then, you f***ing n*****’. I hadn’t heard the word said to me in a while. It was quite a shock when it happened. It was pretty horrible.”
Thomson pleaded not guilty by reason of self defence. She alleged that security staff had “cornered” her sister and that she was acting to defend her. The 26-year-old claimed the event organisers had invited her as an ambassador, adding that she used her social media to promote the event in the lead up.
Sheriff Derek O’Carroll said her claims of self-defence were “utterly implausible”. After the two-day trial, she was convicted of assault against both guards, and of using racial abuse against Mr Okpaje. While the court fined her £790, organisers of the Miss Scotland pageant also stripped her of her title after the scandal went public.
This comes as a young woman was jailed after faking the death of a newborn baby as well as faking being pregnant with twins while wearing a silicone bump. She managed to convince her partner that she was having twin boys – and the couple even had a gender reveal party.
Libby Vernon, 23, met the victim online and the pair were in a long distance relationship. She first claimed she was pregnant with twins by an “abusive ex-partner”.
Workington Magistrates’ Court heard the couple agreed that Vernon would move to Cumbria – where the victim lived – and they would raise the children together.
She then claimed she had lost one of the babies, but said the other was fine as she had a rare condition meaning she has two uteruses.
When the couple met in person she was “showing signs of pregnancy” – but the victim never saw her get undressed at any point because Vernon was “self-conscious” about how she looked.
