Gender reveal parties are often celebrations where family and friends can come together to mark a couple’s major milestone but they are not always popular with everyone
The mess left behind in the aftermath of a gender reveal party has sparked a fierce backlash online.
Gender reveal parties are typically a time when family and friends can celebrate a couple’s milestone announcement for their family. They have increasingly become a common sighting on social media sights with some couples going to extreme lengths to host the most outrageous reveal.
While the spectacle at times attracts praise, one Reddit user explained how frustrated they were to see mess being left behind one such reveal. In a post uploaded to r/mildlyinfuriatingm user PaleBlueDotEnthused shared a photo of a grass lawn speckled with blue confetti – indicating the couple is expecting a boy.
“To whoever threw their gender reveal party at the beautiful Sloan’s Lake and didn’t clean up, **** yourself,” the commenter said. They went on to explain that they had been hiking along a trail and stopped to enjoy the view at the lake when they uncovered the mess.
The Reddit user then said they would return to clean the mess up with rubbish bags. Sloan Lake Park is a popular Denver, Colorado, landmark that attracts many dog walkers and cyclists. the 290 acres are filled with many people along the 2.6-mile path that encircles the lake.
Since being shared on November 18, the post has received more than 49,000 upvotes and a staggering 1,400 comments. Many of those who shared comments under the post voiced their frustration with people not cleaning up after making a mess in public.
Reddit user IMakeStuffUppp said: “I know this sounds dumb, but bring a roll of tape and or a rake. Most of it should just rake up. The little bits just wrap the tape into a loop with the sticky on the outside, slip it over the toe on your shoe and walk over the really little pieces with the tape.”
ScienceSunbeam added: “It’s really disappointing when people disrespect public spaces like that. Clean up after yourselves, it’s the least you can do for the environment and others who enjoy the area.”
MinuQu commented: “Those big and public gender reveals and parties feel so weird to me as a non-American. It feels like it is 100 per cent artificial and exists just to have nice social media pictures and get attention. I know it is coming over from America but I really hope it won’t stick.”
