In need of some transitional dressing inspo? Louise Thompson’s barrel leg dungarees are ideal for heading into the cold weather – and her fans can’t get enough of them

It’s the time of year when the weather is constantly changing and we don’t really know what to wear. One minute it feels like it’s time to get out our winter coats and the next it’s back to just wearing a light t-shirt. Luckily for us, Louise Thompson is here to help give us some fashion inspiration and this week fans can’t get enough of her transitional weather-perfect dungarees from Free People.

Louise started her #lastdayonearth series on her Instagram back in August, focusing on dressing in all your fun and favourite clothes as if it was going to be your last day on earth. We love this series as Louise showcases all her amazing looks and seriously helps us out with ideas of what to wear and how to make the most of our clothes. This week’s post included a chic waistcoat set from Aligne, a quilted jacket from Free People branded as the ‘only jacket you need this autumn’ and of course, her on-trend barrel leg dungarees, £140 here.

The We The Free Good Luck Barrel Dungarees are available in seven different colourways from classic blue denim to a cool khaki shade, however, it was the ecru colour Louise opted for. Although denim is always in for the autumn, cream-coloured denim is a new trend for the season, having been spotted all over London and New York Fashion Week. What makes this colourway in particular so great for transitional weather is that it feels a bit lighter and fresher, working perfectly in both gloomy and sunny weather.

Alongside cream denim, barrel leg silhouettes are another trend we’re going to be seeing everywhere this autumn. This jean style flares out at the thighs and tapers in at the ankles, helping to create a slimmer and elongated shape despite being a baggier style. The added bonus is that the relaxed fit will give your outfit an effortless ‘cool girl’ vibe.

Louise styled her pair with a fitted long-sleeved black top underneath, finished off with a classic Chanel quilted handbag and what seems to be a pair of black Ugg boots. This look is perfect for the kind of weather we’re currently experiencing, however, the versatility of the dungarees means you can easily layer over a knit jumper if the weather gets any cooler. And on the other hand, you could swap out the long-sleeve top for a short-sleeve baggy tee for a warm weather outfit.

We’re not the only ones obsessing over Louise’s looks with one fan commenting, “It’s not fair! Why do you look so good in everything!!! Great outfit choices” and a second writing, “The dungarees on you is so cuuute!”.

The dungarees are on the pricier side at £140, so if you’re looking for the same look for slightly less, we’ve found a couple of more affordable alternatives. Aligne’s Mack Barrel Leg Dungarees are currently reduced from £99 down to £79.99 here . This brand is another favourite of Louise and these dungarees have the same flattering barrel leg shape as the Free People ones.

If the barrel leg is not for you, these straight-leg dungarees from Carhartt on ASOS are a great alternative. Currently reduced from £140 to £84 here , this pair are a great investment piece that you can keep in your wardrobe for years.
